World of Warcraft Turns 10, Blizzard Is Giving Away Molten Corgis

The World of Warcraft MMO is ready to turn ten years old later in the year, and the developers working on the title at Blizzard are announcing that they will deliver a range of events in order to celebrate the occasion and reward those who have stuck with the experience since it was first introduced.

In an official announcement, the company states that one of the most high-profile events will be a rematch between the Alliance and Horde at the Terren Mill and Southstone, which have long been battlegrounds with a reputation for endless combat and incredible feats of bravery.

Blizzard says, “To recapture that feeling, we’ll be opening a Team Deathmatch–style Battleground based on that timeless struggle. However, unlike the old days of Tarren Mill vs. Southshore, there will be a clearly defined victor, so you’ll need to work as a team or face crushing defeat.”

For those who love raiding, the Molten Core area of World of Warcraft will get a new 40-player Raid Finder version, which is designed for max-level players and will deliver those who succeed a special Core Hound reward and an Achievement.

At the same time, all those who log into the MMO during the 10-year anniversary will be able to get access to a special Molten Corgi pet.

Blizzard adds, “These events and rewards will only be available for a limited time, so make sure to check back with us later for more information on when you can expect to see all of these events and goodies in-game. ‘Til then, we’re looking forward to celebrating 10 epic years with you!”

It’s still unclear when the celebratory events will start in World of Warcraft, but the moment is likely to coincide with the launch of the Warlords of Draenor expansion, which is designed to increase the level cap, introduce new areas to explore and tweak the experience for all classes.

Blizzard says that an official announcement about the release date and a reveal for the intro movie will be made on August 11, and that the studio will also introduce an animated and lore-focused feature called Lords of War.

Recently, Activision has revealed that the subscription number for World of Warcraft dropped to 6.8 million, which is still an impressive number, and the company has also said that it is not worried about the decline and expects to see a rebound.
